Bruce Emerson is my nom de plume.

My father was an Episcopalian minister and my mother, who taught me to read, was an elementary school teacher.  I grew up in the suburbs of Sacramento, California.  I spent his first two years of college at MIT, where I was going to be a physicist, then transferred to the University of California at Berkeley, where I majored in Philosophy.  I attended law school also at the University of California at Berkeley, where I was an editor at the law review; I attained that position through a writing competition.  I have practiced law for years in the San Francisco Bay Area as a securities and corporate law attorney and am an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association.
